PORTLAND, MaineCalifornia’s Duckhorn Wine Company, an award winning wine company with three small estate brands, is planning its first wine dinner in Maine, hosted by Back Bay Grill. Back Bay Grill chef/owner Larry Matthews, Jr. and Duckhorn’s East Coast Brands Manager, Michael Brehart, have worked together to create a menu showcasing five wines from Duckhorn. Reservations can be made by calling Back Bay Grill, 207-772-8833; the wine dinner is $125 per person.

“Back Bay Grill is the perfect venue for our first wine dinner in Maine,” said Brehart. “The restaurant is upscale and intimate, it’s a good match for us; it will be a great spot to re- introduce our wines and talk about the winery and its history, while enjoying some wonderful food.” Brehart added, “All of our wines are allocated annually; the entire state of Maine receives only 260 cases a year, when you think about the fact that those cases represent all three of our wineries, you get a sense of just how special these wines are.”

The wines will come from all three Estates and include a Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet from Duckhorn Estates in St. Helena, CA, a Pinot Noir from Goldeneye in AndersonValley, and a Napa Valley Red Blend of Zinfandel & Cabernet from Paraduxx Winery in Yountville.

Back Bay Grill’s five course menu will start with olive oil poached black bass with braised cippolini onions in a fava bean emulsion; pistachio crusted Colorado lamb medallions with creamy romano polenta and baby watercress salad; veal tenderloin and seared foie gras with crushed English pea risotto and parsnip cream; braised pork belly with potato butter, wild morel mushrooms in a veal reduction, and a Maine cheese course for dessert.

Matthews said, “I’ve been a fan of Duckhorn Wines since I started working at Back Bay Grill, and have continued to carry their wines. It’s an honor to host their first wine dinner in Maine.”
