CHEF LARRY MATTHEWS FEATURED IN UPCOMING NATIONAL TV SHOW “THE FRETZ KITCHEN”
PORTLAND, ME – Chef and owner Larry Matthews from Portland’s Back Bay Grill was included in a recent filming in Portland of the Philadelphia based food show “The Fretz Kitchen.” This show will air in the Portland market on Saturday, September 18 on WGME 13 at noon and included WGME’s “Daybreak” co-anchor John Hopperstad as a guest co-host.
Larry Matthews prepared his signature dish “Duck Two Ways” for the show. Matthew’s version of this dish includes seared confit, a lavender marinated breast and a white bean sauce with the unusual addition of pesto. “I selected this dish because although it seems fairly intimidating to make it is not really that complicated. Many people have asked me for the recipe in the past and it is definitely one of the most popular items on the menu at Back Bay Grill,” explained Matthews.
Past guests on “The Fretz Kitchen” include Charlie Palmer, José Andrés, Roberto Donna and from Maine, Rob Evans from Hugo’s and Jonathon Cartwright from the White Barn Inn.
“The Fretz Kitchen” is targeted for the viewer who is passionate about food and wine, and provides tips and techniques from the country’s most exclusive restaurants. Each episode showcases one of the nation’s top culinary talents.
Larry Matthews has been the chef at The Back Bay Grill since 1997 and owner since 2002. The Back Bay Grill was recently honored with the Maine Tourism Award for Food Service and has been the recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence every year since 1998. The restaurant was featured in “Art Culinaire,” and has been written about in “Down East,” the “Maine Sunday Telegram” and the “New York Times.” The Back Bay Grill is located at 65 Portland Street in Portland, Maine and recently introduced a new bar menu and seating area.
