Katrina Creole Cooking Fundraiser
PORTLAND, Maine – Chefs from some of the area’s top rated restaurants including Back Bay Grill, Cinque Terre, Eve’s at the Garden, Hugo’s, Mim’s, Old Port Sea Grill and Salt Water Grill are working with two bands, the Bellamy Jazz Band and The Poorboys, to raise funds for Katrina Relief.
The Creole cooking and jazz event is scheduled for Thursday, September 22, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Portland Harbor Hotel, 468 Fore St. in Portland. Admission to this benefit is $35 per person; additional donations will be accepted as well. All funds raised from this event will go to the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief for the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Executive Chef Jeff Landry from Eve’s is host chef and event creator. Chef Landry said, “There will something for everyone on the menu! We will be smoking and barbequing on the patio – specialties such as pulled pork and smoked beef brisket along with andouille stuffed chicken breast with Creole sauce. Chef Evans of Hugo’s is making his famous beignets (pronounced “ben-yay” – synonymous with New Orleans and the French Quarter). Brown Trading is supplying smoked seafoods. All of the chefs are working on special recipes for the evening.”
The chefs, servers and musicians have donated their time for the evening. Additionally, Browne Trading Company, Harbor Fish, Native Maine Produce, Barber Foods and others are donating ingredients. Portland Harbor Hotel will open its garden terrace and banquet rooms to accommodate guests of the event.
All funds raised from this event will go to the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief for the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
